about

Decomposed and re-recorded during a busy period (see Live at Here, There and Everywhere) between January and June 2019, Dregs of Zen stealthily present their day-bew bin-liner full of goodies. “We don’t quite know whether it’s dark, that we’ve neglected to pay for our utilities, or that we have yet to open our eyes, but I can’t think of a worse time to release an album, so let’s go for it...” suggested a band member. “Who are the Dregs, how many are there?” quizzed a stolen sample at a Peer Hat (Manchester) gig – though afterwards no-one was available, nor interested in resolving such trivia. A brief listen to the bundle, reveals a mix of low fidelity semi-functional noise devices, powered by mainly discharged nickel-cadmiums partying with fermented cooking apples, overseen by thirsty wasps. In an age of definitions and niche enclaves, Dregs of Zen aspire to avoid genre categorisation, preferring the blank-card dividers found in second-hand vinyl emporiums. However, Dregs appear to fall neatly, somewhere between Detritus and Dross, in the universal catalogue of audio classification, so file as you see fit.

Dregs of Zen wish to heap thanks and praise on the following people, who urged this album into the public arena, from the dusty shelf behind those unread books: Fran Land for the wonderful album artwork; Gavin Morrow for his meticulous attention to detail and organisational witchery; the posse behind Weird Garden, and the Weird Garden label, for vacuuming the rights and burden for releasing the album; and our friends and family for their support and tolerance of our efforts to avoid stardom and popularity.
